We are delighted to announce the publication of our new article: “Pollutants in urban runoff: Scientific evidence on toxicity and impacts on freshwater ecosystems” in the journal Chemosphere.
This study explores how urban runoff effluents transport pollutants from city surfaces to freshwater ecosystems, assessing their toxicity and ecological risks. Using Toxic Units models, the research identifies the highest risks associated with metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), pesticides, and certain phthalates. It also highlights data gaps on the ecotoxicological effects of several pollutants present in urban runoff effluents and emphasizes the importance of addressing both acute and chronic toxicity while considering other environmental stressors to develop effective management strategies.
Warmest congratulations to the authors and the entire team involved in this remarkable work!
