The 34th Annual SETAC Europe Meeting, held in Seville in May, brought together experts and stakeholders from around the world and provided a platform for robust discussions and the exchange of knowledge on urgent environmental issues. Sergi Sabater, served as the opening plenary speaker, focusing on the critical implications of water scarcity and extreme climatic events on freshwater ecosystems.
In his presentation “Water Scarcity and Extreme Climatic Events: Implications for Chemical Impact on Freshwater Ecosystems,” Sabater introduced how reduced water flows during droughts and aftermath extreme events concentrate contaminants and create pulses, challenging biodiversity and functioning of freshwater ecosystems.
